Laurence J. Kotlikoff

Our founder, Laurence (Larry) J. Kotlikoff, is a William Fairfield Warren Professor and Professor of Economics at Boston University, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Fellow of the Econometric Society, and a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. Professor Kotlikoff received his B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1973 and his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University in 1977. Larry's passion is helping households like yours improve their financial lives.

Mark and Kara Brandt

Mark and Kara Brandt are MaxiFi support experts and long-time users who have helped many household and professional customers achieve maximum benefit from MaxiFi through Orientation sessions, the Flight Check service, and product demos. Mark earned a BS in Aerospace Engineering from UCLA. Kara graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. Both served as pilots in the Air Force and Mark continues to fly for United Airlines while Kara trains military and commercial pilots. Do I have to buy MaxiFi to use the Concierge Service?

Yes, please purchase MaxiFi Premium before purchasing Concierge Service.

Who provides the Concierge Service?

You can book a session with either Larry Kotlikoff or Mark and Kara Brandt.

Do I have to set up my plan before my Concierge session?

No, Larry Kotlikoff or the Brandts will send you a checklist in advance so you can gather all your financial data. During the multiple sessions they will help you input your data and assumptions, run reports and review the results.

What if we don’t cover all my questions in the allotted sessions?

The Concierge Service includes an initial screen-share meeting and up to three follow-up sessions which can be scheduled up to 3 months from your initial meeting. You can purchase an additional Concierge Service if you have more to review.

Is my data secure and will I have a recording of the session?

We follow best practices in the financial software industry to keep your data safe and secure. See our security controls page

‍Larry Kotlikoff or the Brandts will only view a copy of your profile and will not directly access your account. The sessions will not be recorded. You can take notes and make screenshots during the session. You can also request that the updated profile be imported back into your account after the session.

Is Larry, Mark or Kara a licensed financial planner?

No. Larry Kotlikoff has a Ph.D. in economics. He is a professor of Economics at Boston University, and the founder of Economic Security Planning, Inc. Mark and Kara Brandt are not licensed financial planners. They are long-term experienced power-users of MaxiFi and have helped both households and professionals set up and run their MaxiFi plans. None of the MaxiFi services include investment advice.
